Our Founders
Three close friends
–
Richard Blech Schmidt, Gerold Harbeke, and Karl
–
Heinz Randtke
–
shared a vision: to create a social center in Palm Beach County that celebrated and preser
ved
the rich cultural heritage of the German
–
American community. They called their new social
club the Bavarian American Club.
The club was founded with a clear purpose: to uphold and promote German traditions and
cultural values within the American way
of life. As the idea gained momentum, more local
residents of German descent were drawn to the cause, seeking a sense of connection to the
Alte Heimat
–
the “Old Homeland”

right here in Florida.

1970
Our Property
What began with informal gatherings in shops, restaurants, and other facilities soon grew into something greater. With dedication and determination, the group raised funds, purchased land, and laid the groundwork for what would become a lasting community institution. Our picnic grounds and original clubhouse were a welcoming space for members to come together.
The club’s name was officially changed to the American German Club, reflecting its broader mission and growing membership — one rooted in tradition, yet open to growth and inclusion.
1974
Oktoberfest Tradition
The American German Club’s Annual Oktoberfest began in 1974 and has grown into one of South
Florida’s most beloved cultural
events. Held each October, this vibrant celebration brings together community, tradition, and the true spirit of Gemütlichkeit — the feeling of warmth, friendliness, and
good cheer.
Each year, our dedicated members pour their time and talent into creating an authentic experience, featuring traditional German food, beer, wine, music, and dancing. While entertainment has often included performers brought in directly from Germany, we proudly continue this tradition by showcasing both local and international acts that honor our roots.
Oktoberfest at the American German Club is open to everyone. We invite people of all backgrounds to join us each fall and experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of German culture — right here in Palm
Beach County.

1975
Building
Our Home
Ground was broken for our new clubhouse — designed in the authentic Bavarian Bier Fest Halle style as a tribute to our heritage. Club members came together to dig foundations, pour concrete, and donate both materials and funds. Some even purchased individual cement blocks for a dollar each to help bring the dream to life.
The building’s interior was crafted with care and tradition by members trained in Germany, using time-honored techniques. Their dedication and craftsmanship made the construction a labor of love — and a process that took time, but created something truly special. Today, we continue to enjoy this beautiful clubhouse — rich in history and celebrated just as it was originally envisioned.
2000
Building Our Pavilion
As our events grew in size and popularity, it became clear that we needed a permanent, covered space to host and celebrate these events. We built a spacious pavilion that features a large stage for live performances and entertainment, along with numerous German-style booths where visitors can enjoy traditional food and beverages. The pavilion has become a central hub for our major events, offering both functionality and an authentic atmosphere that enhances the overall experience.

2023
Building Our Kiosk
To better serve our guests during outdoor events, we built a permanent structure known as the Kiosk — a dedicated space for preparing and serving food and beverages. Designed in traditional German style, the Kiosk complements the architecture of our Bavarian clubhouse and adds to the authentic atmosphere of our grounds. It plays a key role in our festivals and gatherings, allowing us to efficiently serve guests a variety of German and American food and drinks.
Today
We proudly carry on the traditions of our German heritage and will continue to be a vibrant hub of culture, celebration, and connection for our community.
As we look to the future, we’re committed to making continuous improvements to our events and facilities, ensuring that every visit is a memorable experience for guests of all ages and backgrounds.
With a calendar full of monthly events, the American German Club is the perfect place to connect,
celebrate, and enjoy the best of German culture
—
all in a relaxed, festive atmosphere.
