Miss Oktoberfest 2017 – Chelsea Raleigh!
It was a beautiful night full of glitz, glamour and Gemütlichkeit! Designed to build anticipation of our Oktoberfest to the community and media, we had fantastic entertainment and a tough choice among 8 exquisite finalists vying to represent our biggest fundraiser of the year.
Our panel of judges were selected for their great interest and respect for our club, perfectly poised to make our search as fair as possible; The Honorable Pam Triola (Mayor of the City of Lake Worth), Dave Kerner, Esquire (Palm Beach County Commissioner), Lynn Smith (Executive Director of the Greater Lantana Chamber of Commerce), and Van-Tam Nguyen (President of the German-American Society of Central Florida).
Though we had many entries, our selection committee narrowed down to 8 finalists. Each finalists’ entry essay was read by the judges and scored in advance as part of a five-category, five-level evaluation process. The essays were considered to gauge contestant interest in German culture and current involvement with our club.
Our new Miss Oktoberfest is the lovely Chelsea Raleigh, who is half German and has been celebrating Oktoberfest since she was a little girl in Cincinnati. Chelsea is the marketing manager for a large organization, volunteers for many agencies requiring strength in advocacy, and holds board positions with various charities, including the West Palm Beach Police Foundation. At the heart of it all is the German heritage she grew up with, and Chelsea has enjoyed volunteering and reveling in many of our club events over the past year since moving to Florida. She is excited to represent the club and our programs at community events over the next year as our Miss Oktoberfest 2017!

2nd Runner Up Kristy Rowe, and People’s Choice
Winner plus 1st Runner Up Ally Goode-McDaniel
First runner up is Ally Goode-McDaniel, who is also half German and grew up with the traditions of her heritage. You may recognize her from attending various club events, volunteering at Oktoberfest and acting as our Christkind at last year’s Christkindl Market. Ally incorporates German traditions in her classroom, and all her kindergarten students love learning about German culture! Just for fun, the audience had the chance to vote for their favorite contestant and selected Ally, for this special title too!
The lovely Kristy Rowe came in as second runner up, who as you know has been a lifelong member of our club and is always having fun at our events. Kristy is excited to continue sharing the news about our club to her peers, and currently attends FAU for Accounting. Way to go Kristy!
You can watch the video of the pageant on our YouTube channel, at youtube/americangermanclub. Months of preparation was put into making the evening a success, and my committee members were instrumental in helping keep our timeline on point. My most heartfelt thanks to everyone who volunteered in the kitchen and at the front door, plus Klaus and Roswitha Sinn who worked for weeks taking crazy reservations requests and being so patient with me – PROST! - Jennifer McDaniel
